Tips on how to reach your Depressed Parent

Having a depressed parent due to problems in life like children, family, friends, work and most especially money are hard to reach or to be with. Any parent may experience this stage in any point of their life. Here are some tips on how to reach your depressed parents.

a. Find somebody who is matured enough or who is an adult also whom you can confide with. He can be a friend or any relative; your grandparents if they are still capable or they have a broad knowledge, if you’re a member of any religious group you can seek help from a priest, pastor or preacher, your teacher or counselor at school, or if you’re close with your aunts or uncle they can give you a helping hand.

b. Do your best to understand the situation of your parents. It’s a condition that might have resulted from other numerous conditions like; death of a love one, drugs or alcohol problems, failure to reach the goals in life, pay the monthly bills, pear pressures etc.

c. Try to help your parent’s by doing small things in your house. Parents who are depressed tend not to do their house chore normally. By helping them to do these small things, your helping them lessen the things that might have been causing them some stressed.

d. Do clean your room and store your toys in their proper place, always help cleaning up the table and washing the dishes.

e. If you’re able to wash your clothes then take the liberty of doing it. Receive calls and take messages if they’re not able to do it.

f. Cook for them or prepare snacks for your parents, help them in every way you can.

g. Talk to your parent’s, ask them on how you may help in their problems. Don’t insinuate that they have done something wrong but instead let them feel that you’re sincere to provide them some help.

h. As much as possible avoid having arguments or any do action that is disrespectful with your parents.

i. Having parents with a depression is a serious condition, if you are sure your parents is suffering from it do seek help from another adult who you can trust.

j. And lastly don’t blame yourself for the current condition that your parent is suffering from.
